Serving Children Impacted by Conflict
Author: ALTSO Staff
From May 2-8, we're moving 5,000 miles and raising $30,000 to fund our newest program serving children in Vietnam, which ranks in the top 10 countries for highest number of landmines in the world.
Our program will reach children in areas impacted by cluster bombs, explosive remnants, herbicidal warfare, and other munitions left as a result of the Vietnam War, as well as extreme poverty.
Even with cleanup, clearance, and risk education, the unfortunate truth remains: everyday children are impacted by a war that ended nearly 50 years ago.
An estimated 100,000 amputees live in Vietnam, and an additional 2,000 men, women and children lose limbs each year due to the 2.2 million unexploded landmines littered across Vietnam's landscape (source).
The need is great and yet dramatically underserved.
But with your support, our program will serve children unjustly impacted by conflict, ensuring they receive the high quality mobility care they need to access independence, education, and the ability to simply be a kid.
When you sign up for Move For ALTSO, you're joining a community who is changing lives with every move they make - literally.
Walk, bike, swim, run, or roll and help us reach 5,000 miles. Every mile you move will bring awareness to the life-changing difference mobility has and every dollar you raise will provide life-changing prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices, and appropriately fitted wheelchairs.
