A Leg To Stand On To Become First Industry Charity to Launch Record Label

NEW YORK – Thursday, May 13, 2021 – Industry charity A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO) - known for nearly two decades of Rocktoberfest events in New York, with more recent iterations in Chicago and London - made the announcement that they will be launching their own record label, A Leg To Stand On Music. This stunning announcement comes one day before the launch of both the new label and a global, week-long activation in honor of Mobility Awareness Month and their mission to bring free, high quality prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices, and appropriately fitted wheelchairs to children in the developing world.

Moving 5,000 miles so others can do the same.

Living in areas without access to public transportation, the average ALTSO beneficiary needs to walk or bike over 5,000 miles to secure an elementary school education. Without the prosthetic limb, wheelchair, or mobility aid needed to physically get there, over 95% are simply unable to attend. Oftentimes, parents will carry a child each way to and from school, resulting in hours of lost wages for already minimal paying jobs.

For one week, beginning tomorrow on May 14th, through Thursday, May 20th, ALTSO's community of advocates are committing to move - in any way, at any time - to reflect on how mobility impacts every aspect of their lives, and every opportunity they are afforded. To help more children living with untreated limb disabilities be able to one day do the same, each participant commits to donating or fundraising at least $1 per mile moved -- a small buy-in that makes a transformative, life-long difference.

To join the movement, sign up here. You can move however you want (walk, bike, roll - anything!), wherever you want (on your treadmill or at your park), with whomever you want (by yourself, with your friends, or with your colleagues) at your convenience!

Launching ‘A Leg To Stand On Music’ label to change lives.

For 18 years, ALTSO's signature music events, including iconic Rocktoberfest events in New York, Chicago, and London, Rock for ALTSO concert series, and virtual Couch Sessions have united hundreds of musicians, and thousands of music lovers and changemakers around the organization's mission helping children access mobility and its multitude of opportunities. Tomorrow, the organization will launch A Leg To Stand On Music, a new label that will feature artists across all spectrums of musical genres.

Tracks will be available to stream/purchase with all proceeds benefiting the organization and their mission.

In honor of the label's launch, historic Rocktoberfest band, ALTSO All Stars, is releasing their first single - a soul soothing and original cover of Ruby Love (originally performed by Cat Stevens), tomorrow at 12:00 PM ET. ALTSO All Stars band leader Ray McKenzie will be performing a live Couch Session with friends, including his son Dylan McKenzie, Thursday May 20th on Facebook. Save the date and tune in to the premier here.
