10-year-old, Muhammad was born with cerebral palsy. After being abandoned by his parents at the age of two, Muhammad's paternal grandmother took him in.
Unfortunately as his grandmother aged, she found it increasingly difficult to support Muhammad unless someone was there to assist her. Muhammad spent most of his days at home, in bed, unable to move.
This all changed when 10 year old Muhammad was brought into our program, Disability Action Network, in Somaliland, and provided with his first wheelchair!
Muhammad was given an adapted wheelchair, which will enable him to sit upright, move with ease, and interact with other children, family members and neighbors. The appropriately fitted wheelchair will also help to prevent further deformities and pressure sores from forming.
Muhammad's grandmother is so thankful to be relieved from the difficulties of carrying Muhammad everywhere - from the bathroom, to the doctors - and most importantly, for her grandson's newfound independence!
